Oh, the Humanity

Our race has done some of the stupidest things, from cutting down millions of trees on a daily basis to poking a hole in the ozone layer , we’ve been crafting (killing) mother nature to cater our needs, but why rant about this suddenly? Cuz they are killing my favorite animal ๐Ÿ˜ฆ .

Everyone has a favorite animal from dog lovers to turtle tamers, everyone loves at least one animal , if not they could pet it , they still love it! I loved the Rhinos, right from my childhood, why? I have five good reasons for that

1. Rhinocerosย  are the closest Unicorn look-a-likes (on land, narwhals rule the ocean with their horns)

2. “Rhinoceros” (almost) rhyme with “Dinosaurs”, and they look like the smaller/evolved version of Triceratops and Xenoceratops

Xenoceratops

3. They are so badass that they can scare the s**t out of any animal in the jungle

and this pic says it all !

4. They are the perfect examples for badass vegetarian species

Rhino Charging

see those veggies in their mouth?

5.ย  They live in peace, i.e , till you poke their arse ofcourse !

Recently rhino poaching has been so relentless that we are almost kicking this amazing creature to extinct from the endangered list, and all for what? A horn that is mostly used as a decorative or sometimes as a medicine, when there are thousand other alternatives in this “scientifically” advanced world. Seriously how’d you feel if i cut your nose? LITERALLY?

Rhino smuggling?

Its already too late, “Save Rhinos” campaigns have been there for years and still poaching has not stopped, soon there wont be any rhinos at all, and one more animal will be added to the “Extinct thanks to Humans” list (Remember Dodos? neither do i, they were long dead before i was born)

One of the last 4 white rhinos (without horn) being guarded

Can we do anything to stop this madness, from kicking animals from the wild to the zoos and later to the museum ? Stop buying animal products, blah blah, everyone has been doing that, i don’t see any significant change. Anyway, something inside me still wants me to hope that rhinos will be saved from extinction.

So, what is your favorite animal? ( and do you think it’ll go to endangered/extinct list anytime ? Just sayin )

P.S: Blogging after a very long time, updated the about page and the name of the blog, comments welcome ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. Not an expert on poaching, but I think you should post this on some forum which monitors poaching and related activities ( Say WWF ). Good start Giridhar and best wishes. Keep blogging !

  2. Never expected this topic from you. Very interesting unicorn and dinosaur analogy. A good read overall! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  3. Rhinos have existed on earth for more than 50 million years ,means survived through various extremes of nature but couldn’t withstand extremes of Humans… sad….
nice start Giri…. way to go …

  4. Never knew that rhino was your favourite! Yes, the situation has gone out of control, all that we can do is to take a trip to Assam and catch a glimpse of these guys before they get wiped away.

  5. First of all, I appreciate your thoughts against poaching. But then, as a person above commented rightly, blogging or writing about it can never change the harmful happenings around us. Poaching is only ONE way of attacking animals. We kill a lot of animals deliberately. For instance, how many of us care to provide first aid for any animal we hit with our vehicles in road? We just see them & rush away. So, these are the minute things we should concentrate. I’m not against your views, but I’m emphasizing on acting from our level. Poaching can be banned by only stringent laws which is like, far away from our vision. We can’t go on a mission to catch the poachers red handed nor we can file a case on them. One good way is to form an association among us & start acting in our locality first. Rest will follow our herd. Anyway, nice that I happened to know that you love animals besides gadgets. ๐Ÿ˜€

P.S: If only animals lived in a loving and a harmless world. :/ Shame on humans.

  6. Enjoyed reading! ๐Ÿ˜€ Nice one da ๐Ÿ™‚

May be in few decades except humans every other non-consumable living things would become extinct :/

  7. A gadget freak turns to humanity and want to help by some means ….!!!
A nice way of presenting this post, kudos !!!

  8. Nice way to put forth ur ideasโ€ฆ..โ€preaching isnt gonna stop poaching any time soon”

  9. It’s great na! It could’ve been better if you’d thrown light on a few stats and figures… But a very thought provoking read! Congrats! Keep going… ๐Ÿ™‚

  10. A good one. This doesnt seems to be new to me as we already spoke about non-vegetarianism. The new thing is poaching.

  11. If you say everyone must stop buying leather products like Belts or wallets, which everyone wont do…….SAD ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

  12. Better late than never.. In future, Men shouldn’t be teaching their Children about Rhinos in the ‘extinct’ list .. Not many people know about the Rhinos getting endangered. Thanks for bringing it to light ! Great Post ๐Ÿ™‚
The second point sure is cool ๐Ÿ˜‰
